Amidst all this, the star of Day 1 for India was the sensational opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten at 257 runs off 179 balls, guiding India to a score of 336/6 in 93 overs. This was Jaiswal’s second Test century, surpassing his previous best of 171 runs against the West Indies. In his unbeaten 179-run innings, Jaiswal hit 17 boundaries and 5 sixes.

 

Jaiswal took 151 balls to reach 100 and 224 balls to reach 150. Currently unbeaten, he will resume Day 2 on February 3rd with Ravichandran Ashwin (5). Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmad took two wickets each for England, while Tom Hartley and James Anderson got one each.

 

Recalling the previous match, Tom Hartley’s exceptional performance helped the visiting team secure a 28-run victory in the first Test in Hyderabad. The left-arm orthodox spinner took 7 wickets in the second innings, bundling the host team for 202 runs.
